Buying From a Dropshipper
When you sell product from a distributor who ships the products direct to your customer that is called drop ship or direct fulfillment. Dropshipping wholesalers are a great way to get started since you do not have any to carry inventory. Drop ship buying is a tricky business. It is very important you work with a reliable dropshipper. If you work with one that is unreliable you will loose customers and cause yourself big headaches trying to fix problems.
You will need to fill out a reseller application which will require a tax ID and a business bank account number.Larger dropship suppliers will assign you a account representative.
A couple of things to keep in mind when interviewing a drop ship supplier:
- After you pay for the product and the shipping, what will be your profit?
- Is the shipping price different depending on location or is it flat fee?
- can you request a packing slip with your company name and info
- Can you ask that they not include an invoice with your costs in the shipment?
- Do they also ship internationally?
- How do you pay for the merchandise?
- Do they have a direct number for customer service or will you be assigned an account representative?
- Who do you talk to for sales questions or returns?
- how does the sales process work?
- How long does it take for them once they get an order to ship it out?
- Do they have the item you are selling in stock and if they run out, how long does it take to get new product in?
- Do they have product literature or pictures that you can use?
- Ask for references, are they well established?
- Do they have any types of special programs?
